Brandt L. Wolkin

Mr. Wolkin advises both insurers and policyholders in claims involving disputed insurance coverage.

Mr. Wolkin prides himself on his ability to predict how cases are likely to resolve and the best way to reach that result. This skill allows him to facilitate the early resolution of a substantial number of matters on which he is retained. This ability, when combined with Mr. Wolkin’s negotiating skills honed over years of experience, explains why so many of the matters he handles resolve early and well.

Mr. Wolkin began his career as a construction and surety attorney. In the late 1980’s, using his construction and surety background, he began to litigate an early generation of wrap-up insurance policies. Mr. Wolkin expanded on this construction defect coverage litigation practice and began representing insurers in a variety of complex matters, including as national counsel for a variety of class action product coverage cases, environmental, and asbestos coverage claims.

Mr. Wokin has advised and litigated under the vast majority of the provisions contained in general liability policies, whether under property damage, bodily injury, or personal injury coverages, and has obtained trial verdicts both for and against insurers. Mr. Wolkin has represented first party insurers and policyholders, obtaining favorable coverage determinations as to individual residences and large construction projects. Mr. Wokin also successfully advises on professional liability issues with a particular focus on whether such claims are timely and appropriately made.

Mr. Wokin represents a wide variety of individual and corporate clients as policyholder counsel. His policyholder clients benefit from his intimate familiarity with how claims departments work based on his many decades of representing insurers. Mr. Wolkin utilizes that experience to successfully arrive at favorable resolutions. Mr. Wokin’s representation of contractor policyholders is aided by the fact that he has tried construction cases involving delay, defects, and contract entitlement to resolution in his clients’ favor.

Mr. Wolkin lectures frequently, including speaking and authoring accompanying materials, at venues such as the International Risk Management Conference, the CPCU annual convention, the Defense Research Institute, West Coast Casualty, and countless continuing education seminars for the benefit of clients. He is a perennial Super Lawyer selection choice.

Mr. Wolkin received his Bachelor of Arts, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, from Hobart and William Smith College and his Juris Doctor from Boalt Hall School of Law.
